Trumpeter Bill Ortiz is a musician’s musician, who has gained a reputations working with artists ranging from En Vogue to Boz Scaggs to Tony Toni Tone over the past fifteen years, culminating in his long relationship in Santana. But he is also a hot solo artist, bringing in other talented artists to share his funky, fun vision.
His newest album, Highest Wish, was a hit with SoulTrackers when we featured it over the Summer, and those who liked it may be even more smitten with his newest single, featuring bandmate Luqman Frank on vocals.

I almost had this under progressive rock. There are a lot of different sounds to this, lending towards that “progressive” heading. Ultimately, though, the mix lands somewhere closer to jazz and R&B with some hip hop added for good measure. Whatever you want to call it, though, this is a strong disc.
